About me

Averil from Charley's Angels Dog Training with her dog

I'm Averil, the trainer behind Charley's Angels Dog Training. I'm an ABTC registered Animal Training Instructor and a full member of PACT, and I use reward-based, practical training to help owners build calm, confident companions.

I love seeing dogs and their humans build their relationship through training, and my aim is always to make training feel achievable in everyday life, not just in a training session.

If your walks currently involve being towed down the road while wondering whether your shoulder is still attached, the temptation is to focus entirely on stopping the pulling.

But before we do that, it helps to look at what’s actually going on.

PULLING ISN’T ALWAYS SIMPLY “BAD BEHAVIOUR”

A dog who is excited, frustrated, overwhelmed or desperate to get to something in the environment is going to find it much harder to focus and walk calmly.

Loose lead walking takes concentration and self-control.

So before asking for more, it helps to consider whether your dog is actually in the right headspace to learn.
